Color notation
Extensionology color names describe the base shade, root placement, and blended tones so professionals can compare color structure before ordering.
Numbers identify shades. A vertical bar separates the root shade from the lengths, while R identifies a randomized blend. For example, 8 | R18/22 has a #8 root with a randomized blend of #18 and #22 through the lengths.
The shade before the vertical bar is the root color. The shade or blend after the bar describes the lengths. For example, 8 | 613 has a #8 root and #613 lengths.
R means the listed shades are randomly blended for a multidimensional result. R18/22 combines #18 and #22 throughout the blend.
S indicates a shorter root and M indicates a medium-length root. These suffixes distinguish variations that use the same length color blend with different root lengths.
